Vision and Strategy

International Graphite (ASX:IG6) is on track to become a global graphite company with plans to produce high-value graphite products through a staged, capital-efficient development program in tier-one jurisdictions.

Our operations are anchored in Western Australia, with growing international reach. We are currently focused on establishing near-term production and revenue opportunities focused on downstream products for traditional industrial manufacturing markets, while building toward our longer-term goal of producing active anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.

Our growth strategy is founded on three pillars:

  1. An industrial graphite manufacturing business in operation by 2026–2027
  2. A globally significant graphite mine at Springdale, in Western Australia, providing decades of secure, low-risk supply
  3. Downstream battery anode production, aligned with global decarbonisation and energy transition priorities.

With proven processing technologies and strong support from government and market leading partners, IG6 is uniquely positioned to develop a mine-to-market graphite supply chain in a trusted jurisdiction.

As the global graphite market expands to meet surging demand for batteries in electric vehicles and energy storage, we are seizing the opportunity to deliver new, value-added supply — at a time when Western markets are most exposed to geopolitical and ESG-driven supply risk.

Our story

International Graphite was launched in 2018 by our Chairman, leading Western Australian metallurgist Phil Hearse, who foresaw the growing demand for downstream graphite products and the emerging global market for battery anode material.

An early feasibility study was prepared with funding from a small group of private investors. The study focused on establishing a downstream graphite operation in the Middle East using feedstock from mines in East Africa, shipped to a processing facility to be built in the United Arab Emirates.

In 2019, the focus shifted back to Western Australia, as the State Government unveiled its Future Battery Industry Strategy.

Collie was specifically chosen for its strategic location, established infrastructure and desire to attract new industry. Its biggest advantage was potential access to low-cost power, which would drive down the cost of graphite processing for globally competitive production costs. The WA Government endorsed the concept with a A$2 million grant from the Collie Futures Industry Development Fund to support the establishment of a graphite micronising facility at Collie.

International Graphite’s vision for a fully integrated graphite production business, wholly contained in the safe and progressive jurisdiction of Western Australia, was cemented with acquisition of the Springdale Graphite Project, from Comet Resources (ASX:CRL) and on the Australian Securities Exchange.

International Graphite made an outstanding market debut in April 2022 under the ticker IG6. Investors took up A$10 million in an oversubscribed raising demonstrating strong confidence in the company and the future of graphite in the global battery market.

“This is the beginning of downstream graphite anode technology in the Australian battery industry. International Graphite will continue to grow its knowledge and experience in the engineering of battery anode materials as we head towards future commercial operations.”

Phil Hearse, Chairman

Grant funding from the Australian and Western Australian Governments enabled International Graphite to undertake drilling and exploration programs at Springdale, to upgrade to bigger premises in Collie, and establish Australia’s first graphite micronising pilot plant and R&D facility to commercialise its graphite micronising and spheroidising processes for a precursor battery anode material. A commercial scale micronising plant is being constructed at Collie and is due to be revenue-generating by 2027.

Europe and North America, grappling with demand growth and vulnerable supply chains, are earmarked as primary markets for the Company’s processed graphite products. International Graphite is a member of the European Battery Alliance (EBA250) and European Raw Materials Alliance (ERMA). In May 2022, the Company also listed on the Frankfurt and Tradelink stock Exchanges.
